WEST OF SCOTLAND UNDER 18 LEAGUE - Ayrshire victorious over Glasgow

Ayrshire recorded their first win of the 2015 campaign in the West Of Scotland Under 18 Inter County League on Sunday 14th June at Caprington, beating Glasgow by 5 - 3.

The county side bounced back in style from their narrow opening match defeat away to Dumbartonshire last month, with three of the four under 16 players winning and two of the four under 18 player taking points to ensure victory for the home team.

In the lead tie, Ewan Milligan lost out by 4 & 3, but big wins by Euan Ferguson and Alyn Murray edged Ayrshire in front and a 3 & 2 win by Blair Fleming, fresh from his Troon Welbeck Junior Club Championship win on Friday evening, gave the home side a 3 - 1 lead.

An out of sorts Murray McCrone crashed to a 7 & 6 defeat but comfortable wins by Luke Murdoch & Craig McKenzie gave Ayrshire the required five points for victory.

In the final tie on the course, Elliot Spence was involved in an epic tie with Jack Williams. Two down with three to play, Spence won the sixteenth to reduce the deficit to one.

Both players failed to convert birdie chances at the seventeenth and Spence saw his birdie putt to half the match at the final hole hit the back of the hole and spin agonisingly out, leaving the tie score as a one hole win for the Glasgow player.
