SCOTTISH AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS - Ayrshire storm into final at Blairgowrie

Ayrshire will play Dumbartonshire in the final of the 2015 Scottish Area team Championships at Blairgowrie on Sunday 17 may after two great results in the quarter and semi finals on Saturday.

In the quarter finals on Saturday morning, Ayrshire faced one of the pre tournament favourites, host area Perth & Kinross, who won the championship the last time it was staged at Blairgowrie.

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) beat host club member and British Amateur Champion Bradley Neil (Blairgowrie) in the lead singles on the final green, and a 2 & 1 win for Scott Brown (Turnberry) over Gavin Dear along with a 4 & 3 win by John Shanks (Irvine) over Stuart Graham gave Ayrshire the required three points for a win.

With the foursomes pairing of Tommy McInally (Loudoun) and Keith Hamilton (Ayr Belleisle) having just completed the first extra hole in their match with Glenn Campbell & Mark Cameron and the final singles between Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert) and Danile Young being all square after eighteen, the last two games were agreed as halved, giving Ayrshire a 4 - 1 victory overall.

In the afternoon Semi Finals, Ayrshire faced defending champions Renfrewshire.

Tommy McInally and keith Hamilton again played foursomes and beat Ronnie Clark & Gordon Stevenson by 4 & 2.

Jack McDonald kept up his impressive form with a 4 & 3 win over Matthew Clark and when Stuart Robin holed from eight feed at the final hole of his match against Michael Daily for a one hole victory, Ayrshire had the three points needed for victory.

Scott brown lost out in his match by 4 & 3 to Andrew farmer and with the match won, John Shanks and Craig Watson agreed  a half, giving Ayrshire a 3 1/2 - 1 1/2 victory.

The final against Dumbartonshire on Sunday morning with three foresomes starting at 0800 and six singles in the afternoon.
