SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - Murdoch & Milligan only Ayrshire survivors after weather delayed first day.

Play in the opening day of the 2015 Scottish Boys Championship at Dunbar was delayed for four hours on Monday morning, 6th April, due to fog, which resulted in only 64 of the scheduled 74 matches starting on the first day, with a number of them still to be concluded on Tuesday.

Six Ayrshire players were in action in the matches which were completed on day one, but resultes were not good for the majority of the local players with only two of the six progressing to round two.

Jordan Sweeney (Ayr Belleisle) was first off in the morning but lost out by 3 & 2 to Jack Cornes (High Legh Park Country Club).

In match 10, Luke Murdoch (Loudoun) fought back from behind to win buy one hole against Kieren McAllister (Easter Moffat) and will face Darren Howie (Peebles) in round two.

Murray McCrone (Troon Welbeck) was crushed 6 & 5 by Graeme Gillies (Pumpherston), who will now play another Ayrshire player, Ewen Milligan (Kilmarnock Barassie) in round two, after Milligan edged through his first round match against Lewis Breslin (Fereneze) at the 20th.

The other two Ayrshire players who completed their first round matches on Monday both lost out to their opponents, Callum Irving (Ayr Belleisle) losing 4 & 3 to Rory Franssen (Inverness) and Jack Purdie (Largs) losing out by 3 & 2 to Alistair McNaughton (Caldwell).

Ayrshire interest was also maintained in the shape of Hamish Mills (Cardross), who is also a member of Largs GC, who won his first round match by 2 & 1 against Scott McAlister (Rothsay). Mills now faces John Paterson (St Andrews New) in round two.

The first round matches continue on Tuesday 7th April.
