AYRSHIRE BOYS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Kilmarnock (Barassie) in single shot victory at Ayr Seafield

Kilmarnock Barassie won the 2015 Ayrshire Boys Team Championship at Ayr Seafield on Sunday 19th April, edging out the local team from Ayr Belleisle by a single shot.

with Ayrshire Golf Association President James McMurdo
11 Ayrshire clubs were represented in the championship which started in sunny conditions though a blustery breeze blew up during the day, making playing conditions testing.

With three scores from four counting towards the team total, the early pace setters were the quartet from Ayr Belleisle with Charlie Cameron (73), Andrew Gordon (74), Jordan Sweeney (74) and Jack Broun (77) combining for a team score of 221, which left them one ahead of former winners Troon Welbeck by a single shot in the early stages.

Despite a 72 from Ross McDonald and a 74 from Jack Thomas, defending champions Irvine GC could only get within five shots of the belleisel total, though their combined team nett score of 200 was good enough to win the Andrew D Nimmo Trophy for the best nett team total in the competition.

As play progressed it appeared that Belleisle’s main challengers would be the team from Kilmarnock (Barassie).

First player in for Kilmarnock (Barassie) was Lewis Cadell, whose 74 combined with 73’s from both Sean Cook and Robbie Muir and a 79 from Ewan Milligan gave the Barassie team a total of 220,
which secured them the Matt Lygate Trophy and Ayrshire Boys Team Champions title for 2015.
