AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - 2014 final tables

The final tables for the 2014 Ayrshire Scratch Leagues have been published, with the championship winning positions and relegation issues now resolved.

In DIVISION 1, all matches were completed in good time, with Irvine taking the title from defending champions Loudoun by virtue of the countback over individual game scores after the two team tied on points at the top of the table.

Troon Welbeck finished bottom of the league this year and will play in Division 2 in 2015.

In DIVISION 2, Prestwick St Cuthbert took the title by a clear margin from Ayr Belleisle and West Kilbride and will be promoted to Division 1 next year, for the first time. 

At the foot of the table, Caprington narrowly lost out to Girvan and Ardeer in the relegation battle, and will drop down to Division 3 next season.

In DIVISION 3, Turnberry led for most of the season and took the title ahead of Kilbirnie Place.

One match, between largs and Turnberry, was not completed by the due date, despite an extension being allowed, and consequently was considered an abandoned match. The consequence was that Largs finished bottom of the table, just one point below Prestwick St Nicholas, who saved their position in division 3 for 2015 with a 4.5 - 1.5 final match home win over Kilbirnie.

In DIVISION 4, Troon St Meddans won the title and gained promontion to Division 3 next season by a clear margin over Rowallan Castle.

Doon Valley will drop back down to Division 5 next year after finishing bottom of division 4 this season.

In DIVISION 5, a late charge by Brunston Castle saw them snatch the title and promotion to Division 4 from long time league leaders Maybole.

A final match 3.5 - 2.5 away win at Abbotsford saw Maybole clear at the top of the table, but Brunston Castle finished their 2014 campaign with home wins over Moorpark and Abbotsford,  by 4.5 - 1.5 and 5 - 1 respectively, to match Maybole's points total and take the title by the narrowest of margins by virtue of tie difference over individual match scores.

A final match between Moorpark and Abbotsford was not played by the final date permitted and was considered an abandoned match, leaving Abbotsford at the foot of Division 5 for the 2014 season.
