WEST OF SCOTLAND LEAGUES - A Team draw with Stirlingshire whilst youths record fourth successive win of the campaign

Title holders and league leaders Renfrewshire had their march to the 2014 West Of Scotland Inter County A League title interrupted by the weather on Sunday 19th October when their match with Lanarkshire at Crow Wood was postponed due to the overnight rain closing the course. The fixture is now due to be rescheduled to Sunday 2 November.

The Ayrshire A Team travelled to face Stirlingshire at Stirling and secured a point with their second successive 4 - 4 draw in the series this year.
Match details (Stirlingshire names first) :-

Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie) halved with John Shanks (Irvine)
Ryan Campbell (Falkirk) beat Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert) by 2 & 1
David Buchanan (Falkirk Tryst) lost to Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) by 2 holes

Lindsay Blair (Grangemouth) lost to Malcolm pennycott (Whiting bay) by 5 & 4
James Donaldson (Falkirk Tryst) halved with Stephen Spence (Royal Troon)
Iain Munro (Stirling) beat Gordon Boyle (Turnberry) by 1 hole

STIRLINGSHIRE   4   AYRSHIRE   4

In the other match played on Sunday, Glasgow beat Dumbartonshire 6 – 2 at Douglas park.

In the fixtures scheduled for week 5, on Sunday 26 October, Renfrewshire can secure their 13th successive league title with a win over their visitors Dumbartonshire at Erskine. Should the league leaders slip up in their fixture Glasgow or Stirlingshire, who meet at Sandyhills, could leapfrog Renfrewshire to the top of the table depending on thei result between them, which would leave Renfrewshire needing a result in their final rearranged fixture against Lanarkshire the following week.

The fourth weekend of fixtures in the 2014 West Of Scotland Inter County Youths Leagues were beset with windy and wet weather, and saw the defending champions Ayrshire record their fourth successive win of the campaign to remain ahead in the title chase.

Ayrshire hosted Stirlingshire at Kilmarnock Annanhill and despite losing the opening tie, the home side recorded a comprehensive 6.5 - 1.5 win over their visitors.

Match details (Ayrshire names first) :-
Sandy Buchanan (Prestwick St Nicholas) lost to Peter Maxwell (Glenbervie) by 1 hole
Greg Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) beat Calum Bisset (Glenbervie) by 2 & 1
Greg Vernon (Kilmarnock Barassie) beat Calum Bauchop (Glenbervie) by 2 holes
Robbie Fitzpatrick (Irvine) beat Mark McInulty (Glenbervie) by 5 & 3
Alasdair Berry (Irvine Ravenspark) halved with Greig Nicoll (Falkirk Tryst)
Gary Morrison (Kilmarnock Barassie) beat Stuart Murray (Falkirk) by 3 & 2
Sandy Walker (Ardeer) beat Shaun Lynch (Falkirk) by 3 & 2
Craig Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) beat Fraser laird (Glenbervie) by 2 & 1

AYRSHIRE   6.5    STIRLINGSHIRE  1.5

In the other match completed on Sunday Glasgow hosted Dumbartonshire at Cathkin Braes, but it was the visitors who came out on top with a comprehensive 6.5 - 1.5 win over their hosts, which included walkovers in four of the eight ties.
The third match scheduled for Sunday 19th October was the match between Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire at Eastwood. Apparently during the fixture the Lanarkshire players and officials refuced to continue with the match, citing 'overhead conditions' as the reason and, despite the course still being open and playable, opted to concede the match to their hosts Renfrewshire. As a result, under the rules of the competition, an 8 - 0 score was awarded to Renfrewshire.
As a consequence of the awarded match scoreline, the destination of the 2014 title is still very much undecided, the 8 - 0 scoreline bringing Renfrewshire up to an identical tie difference with Ayrshire, albeit that Ayrshire remain two points ahead in the table overall.

The position going into the last weekend is that if Ayrshire get a draw or a win in their final match away from home against Lanarkshire at Lanark they will retain the title but if Ayrshire lose their final fixture then a win by any margin for Renfrewshire over Dumbartonshire at Milngavie will give them the title on tie difference.
The other scheduled fixture in the final week is Stirlingshire Vs Glasgow at Buchanan Castle.
