GIRLS HOME INTERNATIONALS - England beat Scotland on day two

England, held to a draw in the foursomes, overpowered Scotland in the singles to chalk up a 6 1/2-2 1/2 victory on the second day of the girls' home golf internationals at Donabate Golf Club, near Dublin.

Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) had a half match in her morning foursomes whilst her clubmate Hazel McGarvie won her match, but both lost their singles in the afternoon as the Scots managed only a half point from six.

In the other match Ireland crushed Wales - conquerors of Scotland on Wednesday - 8 1/2-1/2.
All of which means that England's monopoly of the Under-18 girls title is set to continue. Wales cannot be looking forward to meeting them on the final day.

The Scots played well in the foursomes to win one tie and halve another but England won five of the six singles. Scotland's only afternoon winner was Lauren Whyte (St Regulus) who beat Inci Mehmet 5 and 4.
