The European Team Championships are taking place this week, with the strokeplay qualifying competitions concluded on Wednesday, to determine which eight teams go forward to contest the championships under matchplay conditions.

In the Mens championship at Linna Golf Club in Finland, the Scots team, including Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) qualified for the top flight, with Grant Forrest finishing third individual, only two shots behind the leader, with rounds of 70 & 65 for 135.

In the matchplay stages on Thursday, Scotland take on third place qualifiers Sweden.

The matches on Thursday are :-

England Vs Switzerland
Sweden Vs Scotland
Ireland Vs Germany
Spain Vs France

In the boys championship in Oslo, Norway, Scotland qualified for the top flight in sixth place. No Ayrshire players featured in the team this year.

The news from the womans and girls teams was not so good, with both failing to make the top flight to contest the championship.

The girls team in Skalica, Slovenia, finished in joint tenth place, six shots outside the final qualifying spot.

Hazel McGarvie (Troon ladies) was the best scorer of the Scottish team with 75 & 71 for a 146 total.

In Ljubljanana, Slovenia, the womans team were well outside the qualifying in sixteenth place with a team total of 741, 14 shots outside the qualification mark.

Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) acquitted herself well with rounds of 75 & 73 for 148, the joint second best total from a member of the Scottish team.
