AYRSHIRE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Smyth and Shanks exit in quarter finals

The title holder and the leading qualifier for the 2014 Ayrshire Matchplay Championships both bowed out of the competition at the quarter final stage, when the competition continued over the Kilmarnock (Barassie) course on Tuesday 6 May.  


Top qualifier John Shanks (Irvine) lost out to Steven Wallace (Prestwick St Cuthbert) by 2 & 1, whilst title holder Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) was defeated 3 & 2 by Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle).

In Wednesday's Semi Finals, Steven Wallace plays 2009 title winner Scott Brown (Turnberry) who booked his place in the last four courtesy of a 4 & 3 win over Kenny Milliken (Troon St Meddans).

The 2008 winner Craig Hamilton plays Steven Spence (Royal Troon) in the penultimate round, Spence having beaten Gordon Boyle (Turnberry) by 4 & 3 in their quarter final tie.
