Scotland’s drawn match with Ireland was followed by a close 5-4 defeat from holders England in the Women’s Home Internationals at Scotscraig.

The English team suffered a shock loss to Wales on the opening day but hit back to take the spoils against the home side, winning the foursomes 2-1 and then tying the singles 3-3.

Georgia Hall, the British Open Amateur Champion, had lost to Scottish Champion Alyson McKechin in the morning foursomes but she started the singles charge with a 6 and 5 win in the top match.

The next two matches were split with Eilidh Briggs continuing her fine form with a 2 and 1 win over Sara-Jane Boyd but big sister Megan going down 4 and 2 to Gabrielle Cowley.

Connie Jaffrey, the Scottish Girls’ Champion, clinched her first point for the senior Scottish team with a fine 3 and 2 win over Amber Ratcliffe but when Lauren Whyte was eased out 2 and 1 by Dimmock the match was ended as a contest.

In the final match, Hannah McCook celebrated her first win in a senior Scotland outfit with a 2 and 1 triumph over Goodall.

In the morning foursomes, England claimed a 2-1 advantage but there was a second successive outstanding performance from McKechin and Eilidh Briggs.

The pair were well under par in defeating the Maguire twins in the Irish match and were again several below in claiming another notable scalp in the 2 and 1 win over Hall and a former British Open Amateur Champion, Lauren Taylor.

Both the other matches ended in 2 and 1 wins for England. Megan Briggs, Eildih’s older sister, tasted defeat for the first time in going down with Gabrielle MacDonald to Dimmock and Alexandra Peters.

In the middle match, new cap Heather Munro and Lauren Whyte, last year’s Scottish Girls’ Champion, lost to Boyd and Goodall.

Wales followed up a convincing win over England with a narrower 5-4 victory over Ireland. Scotland completes the series by taking on unbeaten Wales.
