The first round matches in the 2012 Ayrshire Boys Matchplay Championship took place at Prestwick Golf Club on Tuesday 7th August in bright and sunny conditions.

First match out was between the new Ayrshire Boys Champion Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) and Rudi Marshall (Troon Welbeck). Enjoying a fine run of form, Walker had little difficulty in securing a semi final place with a 5 & 4 victory.

In the semi finals, on Wednesday evening, Walker will face Greg Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) following Telfer's one hole win over Jack Thomas (Irvine) in the opening round. One ahead playing eighteen, Telfer was wide left from the tee but when Thomas failed to get up and down for birdie from a few yards short of the green, Telfer holed from a couple of feet for par to half the hole and progress by the narrowest of margins.

The tie between Marc Reid (Prestwick St Cuthbert) and Stuart Easton (Irvine) also concluded on the final green with a single hole winning margin. having been three behind after nine holes, Easton fought back to square the match after seventeen. At the final hole, Easton's tee shot finished pin high, just off the left of the green. His chip to the hole looked likely to run some distance past but struck the pin and dropped into the hole for a winning eagle two.

The final tie on the course was between Darryl Lynch (Ayr Belleisle) and the title holder Callum Beveridge (Troon Welbeck). All square after fourteen holes, Beveridge pulled away over the closing holes for a 2 & 1 victory, to stay on course to retain his title.
The semi finals are scheduled to be played on Wednesday 8th August, teeing off at 4.30 p.m.
