AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Final match showdown for Kilmarnock Barassie in bid to retain title

The 2011 Ayrshire Scratch Leagues are rapidly heading for a conclusion with the destination of some of the silverware still to be decided.

In DIVISION 1, Troon Welbeck made a late title bid with a 5 - 1 away win at Irvine Ravenspark and a 4 - 2 home win over defending champions Kilmarnock (Barassie) in their last two matches.

Coupled with the Barassie club having to concede their penultimate match to Ayr Belleisle due to the non availability of players, the two results put Troon Welbeck on the top of the league on points difference, with only one match remaining to be played in the section.

The final match, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday 25th September, sees Kilmarnock (Barassie) play host to Loudoun. A win or a draw will be sufficient for Barassie to retain the League Championship title whilst a win for Loudoun would give Troon Welbeck the 2011 crown on tie difference.

In DIVISION 2, Ballochmyle have all but secured the trophy and promotion to Division 1 next season, with only Ardeer being in a mathematical position of matching their points total.

Effectively however, the remaining five teams in the league are fighting it out to ensure that they avoid the drop at the end of the fixture schedule.

One more win from their final three games will see West Kilbride safe whilst Caprington need only a draw in their final match to ensure Division 2 status for 2012.

Ardeer, with three home games and one away game remaining, look to be in the strongest position of the remaining three teams.

The bottom two teams at present are New Cumnock and Kilbirnie Place. Whilst new Cumnock have two home games remaining against Ardeer and West Kilbride, Kilbirnie have their work cut out to avoid the drop with a home game against West Kilbride and an away match at Ardeer left to play, as they bid to overtake New Cumnock in second bottom spot.

In DIVISION 3, Confirmation of the result of the crucial match between Prestwick St Cuthbert and Tam O Shanter is awaited, along with a date for the other outstanding match in the division between Largs and Prestwick St Cuthbert.

A win for Prestwick St Cuthbert in either of their remaining matches will see them take the division 3 title and promotion to Division 2 for 2012.

The destination of the DIVISION 4 title will be decided on saturday 24th September when Prestwick St Nicholas travel to Moorpark

In the closest of all five leagues, three teams are presently locked together on 20 points at the top of the league, with Turnberry just ahead on tie difference, with Prestwick St Nicholas second and Ayr Dalmilling third.

Turnberry and Dalmilling have both completed their fixtures, leaving Prestwick St Nicholas needing a draw or better on their visit to Moorpark in order to take the silverware and promotion to Division 3.

Moorpark will still have it all to play for as well as they still retain slim hopes of avoiding bottom spot in the league with two home fixtures still to play. A win over St Nicholas would give Moorpark the opportunity of avoiding the bottom slot if they beat Maybole in their other remaining fixture.

IN DIVISION 5, the silverware and promotion place has already been secured by Girvan, and it only remains for the other teams to complete their fixtures to secure the highest possible league position.

With two home matches and one away fixture remaining, Crosshouse will be hoping to finish the season strongly and haul themselves off the foot of the table, whilst Brunston Castle, Rowallan Castle and Doon Valley will all be hopeful of the opportunity over the remaining fixtures to attempt to secure the runners up place in the division.
