DOC THOM AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT - Smyth remains well in front in chase for title

Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) remains well in front in the chase for the 2011 Doc Thom Ayrshire Order Of Merit title, with 10 of the 14 counting events now completed, and only the results of the McGilchrist Cup at Ardeer still to be added.

second place in the Hillhouse Cup and a win in the Belleisle Cup boosted Smyth's total to 412.5, to give him a substantial lead over nearest rival Jamie Mackay (Kilmarnock Barassie).

His runner up placing in The Amateur Championship raised Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) up to third place, just a single point ahead of John Haggarty (Loudoun), who moved up the table courtesy of his second place finish in the Ballochmyle Open.

Holder Tommy McInally (Loudoun) remains in the hunt in fifth place, boosted by a first place in the Loudoun Open, whilst 2009 winner Keith Hamilton (Ayr Belleisle) moved himself up to joint sixth place with a first place in the Ayr Seafield Open recently.

The next counting event is the Scottish Amateur Championship at Western Gailes from 25 - 30 July.

Other counting events remaining are :-

21.08.11 - Viking Krus (Largs)
28.08.11 - Welbeck Links (Troon Welbeck)
17.09.11 - Arrol Cup (Prestwick St Nicholas)
