THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Final hurdle remains for Stewart at Hillside

Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) has stormed into the final of the 2011 Amateur Championship at Hillside, which takes place on Saturday, after two impressive wins in the quarter and semi final matches on Friday.

In the morning quarter finals, Stewart overcame fellow Walker Cup squad member Tom Lewis (Welwyn Garden City) by 4 & 3 to set up an afternoon semi final against Sebastian Gros (France).

In the semi final, Stewart  overcame his opponent comfortably with a 5 & 4 victory.

Stewart, who presently holds the 2010 Scottish Amateur and 2011 South African Amateur titles, is now just one step away from an unprecedented trio of trophies.

In the 36 hole final on saturday, Stewart will face either Bryden Macpherson (Australia) or fellow Scot Greg Paterson (New Club, St Andrews)
