SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - 7 through, 2 out after day 1 for Ayrshire

Seven of the nine Ayrshire players who featured on day 1 of the 2011 Scottish Boys Championship, which began at Dunbar on Monday 11 April, have booked places in the secound round of the event.

Callum Gorrie (Kilmarnock Barassie) was first through for Ayrshire, beating Robert Johnson (Helensburgh) by 3 & 1. Gorrie now plays Martin Buchan (Balbirnie Park) in round 2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Greg Vernon (Annanhill) was the first Ayrshire casualty of the championship, being edged out at the first extra hole by Lee Morgan (Newbattle).

David Wilson (Troon Welbeck) was a 3 & 1 winner against Jamie Reid (Cruden Bay) and now plays Greg paterson (Ranfurly Castle) in round 2 on Tueday morning.

Wilson's Troon Welbeck clubmate Louis Murray had the highest margin of victory of the Ayrshire players on Monday, beating Max Baillie (Glenbervie) by 7 & 5 to set up a second round match against Sean Burgess (Nairn) late on Tuesday afternoon.

Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) made no mistake in his first round match with a 5 & 3 win over Cameron Andrew (Kirkhill). Walker plays in the final second round match scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, against Alasdair Macdougall (Elderslie)

Blair Gavin (Kilmarnock Barassie) had a 3 & 2 victory over Michael Giovannetti (Douglas Park) in the opening round and will now have a day of rest before facing Scott Clarke (Haggs Castle) on Wednesday morning in their second round clash.

Ayrshire's second casualty of day 1 was Robbie Fitzpatrick (Ardeer) who was defeated by Kurt Yule (Goswick), by 3 & 2.

Euan Henderson (Kilmarnock Barassie) was a 3 & 2 winner over Calum Stewart (Brora) and now faces a second round tie against Rory Stewart (Crieff) on Wednesday.

The final Ayrshire player in action on Monday was Callum Beveridge (Troon Welbeck) who recorded a 6 & 5 win over Gordon Cowen (West Lothian) and now plays Craig Anderson Sandyhills) in round 2 on Wednesday morning.
