AYRSHIRE LADIES COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP - County title first for McQueen at Largs

Rachael McQueen (Troon Ladies) won the Ayrshire Ladies County Golf Championship for the first time, on Thursday 14th April at Largs, when she defeated the defending champion Lesley Hendry (Largs Routenburn) by one hole in the final.

In the morning semi finals Lesley Hendry beat Gillian Arnott (Kilbirnie Place) whilst Rachael McQueen beat Audrey Thompson (Loudoun).

Rachael McQueen, with Ayrshire Mens matchplay Champion Euan Brown acting as her caddie, took the early initiative and forged a three hole lead.

Defending champion Lesley Hendry was not giving up her title easily however and towards the latter stages of the final fought back to square the match before McQueen, to her credit, turned the tide and held on for a one hole victory and her first county title.
