BOYS AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Local hopefuls fail to make matchplay rounds

The two local hopefuls taking part in the Boys Amateur Championship, being played at Kilmarnock (Barassie) and Dundonald this week, both failed in their bid for a place in the matchplay stages as the strokeplay rounds concluded on Wednesday.

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) opened with a 75 (+2) at Barassie on Tuesday but crashed to an 83 (+11) over Dundonald on Wednesday to finish in joint 171st place.

Marc Smith (Troon Welbeck) finished in equal 181st place after an opening round of 79 (+6) at Barassie was followed with a round of 84 (+12) at Dundonald.

The top 64 players and ties, which ammounts to a total of 74 players, will progress to the matchplay rounds which begin at Kilmarnock (Barassie) on Thursday.
