SCOTTISH CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - McEwan is best of the Ayrshire players in season opener


Scottish international Steven McEwan (Caprington) - pictured right - was the best placed of the four Ayrshire players in the Scottish Champion Of Champions 72 hole event played at Leven at the weekend.

The title was won by Ross Bell (Downfield) on 275 (68/70/67/70) who edged out England international Tommy Fleetwood (Formby Hall) (70/67/72/67) by one shot.

Lying equal seventh after three rounds, McEwan had his worse round of the championship with 77 over the final 18 holes which gave him a total of 289 and a share of 17th place.

Ayrshire Strokeplay Champion John Shanks (Irvine) was four shots further back on 293 whilst 2009 Ayrshire Matchplay winner Scott Brown (Turnberry) finished on 297.

The remaining Ayrshire player in the field, Euan Brown (Kilmarnock Barassie) ended on 307.
