SCOTLAND Vs. SOUTH AFRICA - Scots defeated by hosts in test match

Report from the SGU website at www.scottishgolf.org

Scotland's International Team, with a 5 point deficit to overhaul, were up against it going into the second and final day of the inaugural Test Match against South Africa, played at Leopard Creek Country Club near Malalane in Mpumalanga.

In the end the host nation's dominant form continued as they won comfortably by 21 points to 7.

Enjoying the cloudy and cool weather the teams started the day with a singles and four betterball matches in the morning, in that order. The South Africans won all but one of these games with Scotland's only point coming from Gordon Yates and Mark Bookless 2 hole victory against Jared Harvey and Dean O’Riley.

Going into lunch South Africa were eight points clear of Scotland, meaning only two wins was all that was required to win the Test Match.

The first two South Africans out, in the afternoon singles, Riekus Nortje and Johan Bekker respectively, did the deed for the host nation beating Gordon Yates and Mark Bookless one up and two up respectively.

Steven McEwan (Kilmarnock Barassie) secured a consolation singles point for Scotland with a 4&3 win over Tyrone Ryan while the experienced Glenn Campbell managed a half against Jared Harvey.

With all the remaining matches going to South Africa, some in grand fashion, the home team ran out comfortable winners.
