2009 ARROL CUP - Robertson takes the honours at St. Nicholas

George Robertson (Irvine Ravenspark) - pictured right -is the 2009 winner of the 36 hole Arrol Cup competition, played at Prestwick St. Nicholas on Saturday 19th September.

Out in the first game of the day, Robertson made the most of the good weather early onwhen he covered the firs eighteen holes in five under par 64 to lead the field by four clear shots after round one, with home club player Gary Tierney in second place at the halfway stage on 68.

As the weather worstened in the afternoon, scores in general rose and ultimately only 36 of the 66 competitors returned a two round total.

Robertson followed his stunning morning round with 79 in the afternoon for a 143 total which ultimately gave him the trophy by a single shot over Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) who returned a pair of 72's for 144.

Ed Wood (Crow Wood) was third with 72 - 73 for 145 which edged out local player Gary Tierney (68 - 77) by virtue of the better second round.

CSS in the morning was 72 and in the afternoon was a non counter (reduction only)
