SCOTTISH SENIORS MATCHPLAY - Miller ousts holder on way to semi finals


The Ayrshire Golf Association Vice President David J Miller (Kilmarnock Barassie) stormed into the semi finals of the 2009 Scottish Senior Mens Amateur Match Play Championship at Newmacher on Thursday, beating the holder en route.

Miller, who qualified in fourth place, was two under par in the morning on his way to a 5 & 4 victory over Brian Christie (Wilton).

Miller's play improved even further in the afternoon where he was four under par when beating the 2008 champion, Ronnie Maclean (Hamilton), by 4 and 2 in the quarter finals.

In the semi finals on Friday morning, Miller plays Stephen Ellis (Heritage GS) who beat the top seed Bob Stewart (Tulliallan) by one hole in the last 16.

Ayrshire's other surviving player in the last 16, John Broadfoot (Turnberry) lost by one hole to George Paterson from the Aberdeen Northern club on Thursday morning.
