SCOTTISH BOYS AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayrshire edged into second spot by North

The Ayrshire boys team of Andrew Wright (Kilmarnock Barassie), Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie), Colin Robinson (Largs) and David Wilson (Troon Welbeck) came agonisingly close to recording a second win for Ayrshire in three years in The Scottish Boys Area Team Championship at Ballumbie Castle Golf Club on Sunday 7th June.

The Ayrshire side were beaten into second place by the North area, by virtue of the fourth score in the afternoon singles after the two teams tied on 366.


Ayrshire, who won the title in 2007 and were fourth in 2008, were joint leaders with Perth & Kinross after the morning foursomes, both the pairings of Wright & McDonald and Robinson & Wilson returning 74's for a 148 total.


In the afternoon, Robnson led the way for Ayrshire, hitting 16 greens in regulation but taking 35 putts on his way to a 69 which was the thirds best score of the day. Jack McDonald added a 74 and david Wilson a 75 for Ayrshire's 218 afternoon singles total and a 366 overall target for the 15 other areas.


After a 152 total in the morning foursomes, the North team, with counting scores from Rodger Clarke, Kyle Godsman and Calum Stewart of 69,71 and 74 made up the four stroke defecit from the foursomes to match Ayrshire's 366 overall total, and the destiny of the title was decided by the fourth score in the singles with the North taking the title for the first time in their history by virtue of Gavin Hay's 77 against Andrew Wright's 84.


Defending champions Lothians were third on 368.
