Acheson - pictured right - stormed into an early lead, taking a four hole advantage after five. At the sixth hole, Acheson lost a ball and conceded the hole whilst Thorburn reduced the defecit further by winning the 7th to reduce the defecit to two holes, which remained the position as the players turned for home.
A birdie three at the 11th restored Acheson's lead to three holes but Thorburn replied quickly, taking the 12th to reduce the defecit to two holes once again.
At the 13th, Acheson produced an excellent recovery from off the green to restore his 3 hole advantage and stamped his authority further on the tie by taking the 14th to go dormie 4.
At the 15th, Acheson secured the required halved hole for a 4 & 3 victory and the Champion Of Champions title.
