THE EDWARD TROPHY - Steven McEwan Runner up to Scott Henry in extended 72 hole event

In the Edward Trophy played at Glasgow Gailes on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th April, Steven McEwan (Caprington) - pictured right - was runner up to former Scottish stroke-play champion Scott Henry (Cardross).

This year the event was played over 72 holes for the first time, instead of its traditional 36 hole format.

McEwan finished with rounds of 69 and 67 for an 8 under par total which left him two adrift of Henry.

Scottish Boys Champion Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) was back on form, a final round 65 giving him a 285 total and fifth place overall, whilst Ross Dixon (Kilmarnock Barassie) also performed well for a 291 total and joint 9th place.

The only other Ayrshire player to survive the cut was John Cairney (Irvine Ravenspark), who finished on 300 (73 77 75 75)
