SCOTTISH BOYS STROKEPLAY - McEwan takes national title

In what proved to be an excellent championship for the Ayrshire representation, Steven McEwan of Kilmarnock Barassie produced two excellent closing rounds on Thursday at Monifieth to take the 2005 Scottish Boys Open Strokeplay Championship.

A morning round of 67 was followed in the afternoon by a 69, which included birdies at the final two holes, to give McEwan a one under par total of 283 over the four rounds, and the title by two strokes, from defending champion Scott Henry (Cardross).

The leader after 3 rounds, Stuart Robin (Prestwick St. Nicholas) faultered over the inward nine of the final round, eventually posting a 75 for a 287 total and a very creditable 4th place overall.

Former Scottish Under 16 Champion, David Addison (Kilmarnock Brassie) also finished well, 72 in both his Thursday rounds giving him a 290 total, and equal 6th place.

Kyle Smith (Kilmarnock Barassie) completed an outstanding championship for Ayrshire, and the Kilmarnock Barassie club, with rounds of 69 and 74 on Thursday to win the George McDonald Memorial Bowl for the best score by a player under 16, his 295 giving him an equal 10th spot in the championship overall and the under 16 award by an impressive 6 shots from his nearest rival.
