AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - League Championship latest

In Section A, Annanhill inflicted a 5-1 home win on New Cumnock, who are still looking for their first win of the 2005 league season. Present positions in the section are :-

TEAM P/W/D/L/F/A/Dif/Pts
BALLOCHMYLE 7/4/2/1/28.5/13.5/+15/20
ST. CUTHBERT 7/4/2/1/25.5/16.5/+9/20
ANNANHILL 7/2/3/2/20.5/21.5/-1/14
ROUTENBURN 5/1/1/3/12.5/17.5/-5/6
NEW CUMNOCK 6/0/2/4/9/27/-18/2

The crunch matches remaining are still the away matches involving St. Cuthbert and Ballochmyle next week, with St. Cuthbert travelling to New Cumnock on Saturday 23 July and Ballochmyle visiting Routenburn the following day.

In Section B, West Kilbride secured top spot with a 5-1 home win over Beith, which also ended their visitors challenge for the semi final place. Present positions are :-

TEAM/P/W/D/L/F/A/Dif/Pts
WEST KILBRIDE 6/5/0/1/22.5/13.5/+9/20
LARGS 5/4/0/1/19.5/10.5/+9/16
BEITH 7/3/1/3/20.5/21.5/-1/14
BARASSIE 6/1/1/4/16.5/19.5/-3/6
ST. MEDDANS 6/1/0/5/11/25/-14/4

With West Kilbride facing two away fixtures in their final two games, including a trip to Largs, and Largs also having two away matches still to play, the result of the section is far from clear at this stage.

In Section C, Ayr Belleisle finished strongly to establish a stiff target for their challengers at the top of the table, courtesy of wins in their final two fixtures, by 5-1 away at St. Nicholas and 3.5-2.5 at home to Loudoun. Kilbirnie got back to their winning ways in the other fixture played recently, beating St. Nicholas by 3.5 - 2.5 at Prestwick. Present positions in the section are :-

TEAM P/W/D/L/F/A/Dif/Pts
AYR BELLEISLE 8/5/2/1/29.5/18.5/+11/24
TROON WELBECK 6/3/2/1/22.5/13.5/+9/16
KILBIRNIE PLACE 6/4/0/2/18/18/0/16
LOUDOUN 7/3/0/4/22/20/+2/12
ST. NICHOLAS 7/0/0/7/10/32/-22/0

With only 3 fixtures remaining, both of Belleisle's challengers, Kilbirnie and Troon Welbeck, require two wins from two to match Belleisle's total points. Kilbirnie have an away tie at St. Nicholas and a home tie against Welbeck, whilst Welbeck have a home match against Loudoun as well as their trip to Kilbirnie. Even with two wins, Kilbirnie will have to be on top form to overcome Belleisle's points difference, whilst Welbeck, although they have a good points difference, face a difficult task to secure a win at Kilbirnie.

In Section D, Ardeer moved to the top of the section, courtesy of a conceded match against Skelmorlie. Present positions in the section are:-

TEAM/P/W/D/L/F/A/Dif/Pts
ARDEER 5/3/0/2/15.5/14.5/+1/12
CAPRINGTON 2/2/0/0/8.5/3.5/+5/8
RAVENSPARK 4/2/0/2/12.5/11.5/+1/8
SKELMORLIE 2/0/0/2/3.5/8.5/-5/0

Caprington still remain the biggest challengers to Ardeers hopes of a third successive League Championship title, with 3 games in hand over the champions.
