AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Latest results

Three more matches have been played recently across the Ayrshire Scratch Leagues.

In DIVISION 1, Loudoun fought back from losing the opening three ties to secure a 3 - 3 draw against defending champions Irvine when the teams met at Loudoun.

In DIVISION 2, Prestwick St Cuthbert recorded a second successive 5-1 home win, against Ayr belleisle, to maintain their 100% record.

In DIVISION 3b, Girvan opened their title challenge with a 3.5 - 2.5 home win over Troon Welbeck.

PRESIDENT'S PUTTER - Third round line up confirmed.

The line up for the third round of the handicap club team knockout competition for the President's Putter has been confirmed, with the last remaining second round matches being completed recently.

Prestwick St Nicholas returned with a 3-0 winning scoreline from their visit to play North Beach, whilst Drongan had a 3-0 home win over Ballochmyle to progress.

WEST OF SCOTLAND MEN'S STROKEPLAY AND CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Victories for Ruben Lindsay and Largs GC

Ruben Lindsay (Turnberry) is the 2023 West of Scotland Men's Strokeplay Champion following the championship hosted on Sunday the 21st of May by The Ayrshire Golf Association at Largs Golf Club. 

Playing in the first group in the morning, Lindsay returned a one under par score of 69 to secure the title by a single shot from Richard Elrick (Fereneze) in second place, by virtue of the better inward half, and Andrew Campbell (Dumbarton).

Iain Brown (West Kilbride) took fourth place, by virtue of the better inward half, from Fraser Innes (Largs), a shot further back on 71.

 There was also Ayrshire success in the Club Team  Championship when the Largs - 1 team of Cameron Aitken (73), Gregor Dickson (76) and Fraser Innes (71) returned a three score team total of 220 to win the trophy by seven shots from the teams from Irvine and Royal Troon.

THE AYRSHIRE JUG - Ayrshire Mixed Greensomes Knockout Trophy competition second round complete

The Ayrshire Mixed Greensomes Knockout competition for The Ayrshire Jug has now reached the third round stage, with the 16 remaining pairs now confirmed after completion of round two.

In the remaining ties, John & Liz Keohone (Loudoun) beat their visitors Rodger & Shirley McMillan (Prestwick St Cuthbert) by 2&1 whilst Carol Moffat & James McGhee (Caprington/Loudoun) had a home win by the same score over Susan Smith & Roddie Middleton (Loudoun).

Alasdair & Catherine Malcolm (Prestwick St Cuthbert) had a single hole victory over clubmates Iain & Shirley Campbell (Prestwick St Cuthbert) to progress, and in the last sixteen will play Neil & Sheila Kennedy (Loudoun), who had an away win at the first extra hole in their second round tie against Arlene Sinclair & Stuart Wallace (Irvine).

The third round matches are all due to be completed by the 25th of June.

JUNIOR OPEN COMPETITIONS - Entries invited to for West Kilbride and Kilmarnock Barassie

Entries are now invited for both the West Kilbride and Kilmarnock Barassie Junior Open competitions, which are both counting events for the Ayrshire Junior Order of Merit.

The West Kilbride event takes place on Tuesday the 18th of July and incorporates boys and girls competitions and a 9 hole flag event.

Entry can be made on on line via the club website, or via the link on the left of this page, under the 'Juniors' heading.

The Kilmarnock Barassie competition takes place on Tuesday the 25th of July, and again incorporates boy's and girl's events and a flag competition.

Entries to be submitted to the Kilmarnock Barassie GC general manager.   

WEST OF SCOTLAND JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP - Entries invited for Cathkin Braes

The 2023 West of Scotland Junior Championship will be held at Cathkin Braes Golf Club on Wednesday the 5th of July, and entries are now invited.

Hosted by the Glasgow Golf Union, the 18 hole strokeplay championship is open to both boys and girls who are members of clubs in the Ayrshire, Dumbartonshire, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, Stirlingshire and Argyll & Bute Scottish Golf regions.

The entry fee is £10 and handicap limit is 36.

The boys returning the eight best scratch scores in the championship will go on to contest the West of Scotland Boys' Matchplay Championship at Cathkin Braes on Thursday the 6th and Monday the 10th of July.

DOC THOM AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT - Colin Goudie takes early lead

2023 Ayrshire Strokeplay Champion Colin Goudie (Ayr Belleisle) has taken an early lead in the Doc Thom Ayrshire order of merit after completion of the first three of twenty counting events.

Goudie added to his maximum points at the Ayrshire Strokeplay Championship with additional points from the Ayrshire matchplay Championship first round and a fourth place finish in the Hillhouse Cup.

matchplay Championship runner Up Blair Morton (Royal Troon) lies in second place with Aidan Long (Ayr Belleisle) in third.

The next counting events are  the West of Scotland Strokeplay Championship at Largs on Sunday the 21st and The St Cuthbert Open and the West Kilbride Men's Open at the end of May.

HILLHOUSE CUP - Victory for Jack Broun at Royal Troon

Jack Broun (Turnberry)

won the first major open competition of the season in Ayrshire on Sunday the 14th of May when he took the prestigious Hillhouse Cup at Royal Troon by two shots.

In the event, which is a counting competition for the Ayrshire Order of Merit and is open to members of Ayrshire clubs, Broun, who recently won the national students title at Moray Golf Club, posted a score of 72 which was good enough to see off the rest of the quality field in the event.

AYRSHIRE MEN'S CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY - Two results awaited to complete third round line up

Just two results are awaited in the Ayrshire men's Champion of Champions Trophy competition, before the line up for the third round is confirmed.

In recent second round ties, James McIntyre (Redburn) received a walkover from Charles Coyle (Tam O Shanter) and will visit either Mark McLelland (Girvan) or the title holder Blair Morton (Royal Troon) in the last sixteen, whilst Aidan Long (Ayr Belleisle) booked a third round visit to play Robbie Macinnes (Rowallan Castle) after his second round victory by 2&1 over his visitor Barry McDonnell (Stewarton).

Playing at home in the second round, Cameron Aitken (Largs) beat Ryan Morrison (Ayr Seafield) by 5&4 to set up a home tie in the third round against Kierean Reid (Alton).

|In the third round Gordon Johnston (Kilbirnie Place) will be at home to Sam Findlater (Braehead) who had a notable victory at home by a single hole over Daniel Forbes (Irvine) in their second round encounter.

Robbie Stewart (Troon Portland) will host Robert Adams (Abbotsford) in the third round after Stewart had a home win by 7&6 over Alan Smeeton (The Chase) in round two and Adams had a 2&1 win at home to Andy MacDonald (Auchenharvie 88).

John R Anderson (Skelmorlie) had a 6&5 home win over Paul Prichard (Prestwick Centre) in round two, and will be at home in the last sixteen against Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle), who came out on top by 3&2 in the clash of two former winners when he visited Steven McEwan (Caprington) in the second round.

The remaining two second round ties, featuring David Robertson (Prestwick St Cuthbert) Vs Andrew Thomson (Routenburn) and Mark McClelland (Girvan) Vs the trophy holder Blair Morton (Royal Troon), are due to be completed by Sunday the 21st of May.

AYRSHIRE WOMEN'S CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY - Three of four quarter finals completed

Three of the four quarter final matches in the inaugural Ayrshire Women's Champion of Champions Trophy competition have been completed recently.

In the semi finals Jennifer Linklater (Largs), who received a quarter final walkover from Alex Sargent (Skelmorlie), will play Audrey Thomson (Loudoun) who booked her place in the last four with a 4&3 home win over Catherine Malcolm (Prestwick St Cuthbert).

In the other half of the draw, Debbie Watt (Ayr Belleisle Ladies) had an away win at the first extra hole in her quarter final tie against Joy Young (Ballochmyle) and will now visit  the winner of the quarter final match between Pauline Patrick (Irvine) and Louise Thrippleton  (Troon Welbeck) in the semi finals.  

AYRSHIRE FOURBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - The Chase duo book their place in the last sixteen.

The latest pairing through to the last sixteen of the 2023 Ayrshire Fourball Championship are Dougie Beattie & Roy McCubbin (The Chase).

Playing away from home against Scott & Jake Bunyan (Doon Valley) in the second round  The Chase duo won by 4&3 to set up a visit to Kilbirnie Place in round three.

There are six results outstanding from the second round matches, which are due to be completed by Sunday the 21st of May.

GARY BRYDEN MEMORIAL SALVER - two more first round results posted

Two more first round ties in the scratch club team knockout competition for The Gary Bryden Memorial Salver have been played recently, as the line up for the second round nears completion.

Rowallan Castle were 2-1 home winners against Redburn and will now be away to either Turnberry or Troon St Meddans in the last sixteen, whilst Ayr Belleisle won 3-0 on their visit to Troon Welbeck and will be at home to Prestwick St Cuthbert in round two.

The three outstanding first round ties, featuring Largs vs Prestwick St Nicholas, Caprinton Vs Royal Troon and Turnberry Vs Troon St Meddans, are due to be completed by Sunday the 21st of May.

Only one second round result in the handicap club team knockout competition for The President's Putter is awaited, before the full third round line up is confirmed.

The latest results posted saw Braehead beat their visitors from Portmann by 2.5 - 0;.5, to secure a visit to Troon Portland in the last sixteen, whilst Prestwick St Nicholas had a 3-0 away win over North Beach to set up a home tie against Skelmorlie in round three.

The outstanding fixture, between Drongan & Ballochmyle, is due to be completed by Sunday the 21st of May.

AYRSHIRE WOMEN'S HANDICAP LEAGUE - new competition gets under way

The new Ayrshire Women's Handicap League Championship is under way, with several fixtures having already been completed in Section A.

Loudoun opened with a 3-1 win at home to Troon Welbeck whilst Kilmarnock Barassie have had mixed fortunes, beating Troon Welbeck 3-1 away from home but losing by the same margin on their visit to play Prestwick St Cuthbert.

At the conclusion of the two qualifying sections, the winners of sections A and B will play off for the championship title at Finals day in September.

AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Two divisions under way

The first and second divisions of the Ayrshire Scratch leagues are under way, with Divisions 3a and 3b due to begin this week.

In DIVISION 1, Kilmarnock Barassie lead the way with victories in their opening two fixtures against Royal Troon at home and Loudoun away.

Four of the seven qualifying sections in the 2023 Ayrshire men's handicap league Championship are under way.

In SECTION A, Royal Troon began their title bid with a 4 - 2 home win over Kilmarnock Barassie whilst Kilbirnie Place had an away win by the same score at Kilmarnock Barassie.

In SECTION C, Auchenharvie 88 have begun with two away wins, by 4-2 against North beach and 3.5 - 2.5 against Ayr Seafield

Irvine Golf Club juniors have made a strong start in their bid for the 2023 Ayrshire Junior Golf League Championship title.

Following their opening 6 - 0 home win over Prestwick St Nicholas, the Irvine side won their first away fixture of the season against Kilmarnock Barassie by 5 - 1 recently.

The first fixture in Section Bis due to take place on Sunday the 21st of may when Troon Welbeck entertain Ayr Belleisle.

Three second rounds ties in the handicap club team knockout competition for The President's Putter are still outstanding, as the line up for the last sixteen matches nears completion.

In recent fixtures Auchenharvie 88 won by 2-1 in their visit to play Abbotsford, whilst The Chase had a home win, by 2.5 - 0.5, over their visitors from Largs.

2-1 home wins saw Ayr Belleisle and Alton through to the last sixteen, at the expense of Troon St Meddans and Moorpark respectively.

West Kilbride also had a home win by 2-1 against Ayr Seafield, whilst Caprington visited their close rivals at Loudoun and came away with a 2-1 win.

The remaining fixture played saw Redburn secure a 3-0 win over their hosts from Ardeer.

The remaining three ties in round two are due to be completed by the 21st of May.
