GARY BRYDEN MEMORIAL SALVER - Semi final pairings confirmed

The line up for the semi finals of the 2022 scratch club team knockout competition, for the Gary Bryden Memorial Salver, has been confirmed.

Ballochmyle will host Kilmarnock Barassie in the first semi final.

In the second semi final, title holders Prestwick St Cuthbert will host Largs.

Prestwick St Cuthbert had a 2-1 away win against Troon Portland in their quarter final tie, whilst Largs were 2-1 home winners over Prestwick St Nicholas at that stage.

The final of the competition is scheduled to take place during the Finals day at Largs on Sunday the 4th of September 2022.

SCOTTISH GOLF - National representative honours for two Ayrshire golfers

Two Ayrshire golfers have been selected to represent their country in forthcoming international competitions.




Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) features in the six man team that will contest the European Senior Men’s Championship at Estonia Golf & Country Club in Estonia from the 30th of August to the 3rd of September.





Freya Russell (Royal Troon) has been selected in the seven strong squad who will take part in the Girls’
Home Internationals at Downfield GC, Dundee from the 2nd to the 4th of September.

 

AYRSHIRE MEN'S CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY - Semi final line up confirmed

The line up for the semi finals of the 2022 Ayrshire Men's Champion of Champions Trophy competition have been confirmed, with both semi finals due to take place on Friday the 5th of August at Royal Troon.

The first semi final will feature Blair Morton (Royal Troon) and Steven Stamper (Turnberry)

Blair Morton won a tight encounter away to Tommy McInally (Loudoun) in the quarter finals, by a single hole, whilst Steven Stamper also had a final green victory, by two holes, over Scott Ainsworth (Ardeer) in their quarter final clash at Turnberry.

The second semi final will be between Keith Hamilton (Ayr Belleisle) and Aidan Long (Prestwick Centre).

Keith Hamilton, who is also a member of Royal Troon, beat the holder Steven McEwan (Caprington) by 4 & 2 over the Caprington course in their quarter final, whilst Aidan Long, who is also a clubmate of Keith Hamilton's at Ayr Belleisle, had a 3 & 2 home victory over Sandy Buchanan (Prestwick St Nicholas) in their quarter final tie.

The final of the championship is scheduled to take place on Friday the 12th of August, at Royal Troon.  


SCOTTISH MEN'S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - 42 Ayrshire players bid for national title

42 players from Ayrshire will bid for the Scottish Men's Amateur Championship title this week, when the 2022 competition takes place over Glasgow Gailes and Western Gailes from Tuesday the 26th to Saturday the 30th of July.

Qualifying rounds will be played over both courses on Tuesday and Wednesday with the sixty four players returning the best 36 hole totals progressing to the matchplay stages.

AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Latest positions as championships near a conclusion.

The three Ayrshire Scratch league competitions are nearing a conclusion, with the final matches in Divisions 1 and 2 due to be completed by the 19th of August, and the remaining fixtures in Divisions 3a and 3b due to be finalised by the 31st of July.

In DIVISION 1, recent 3.5 – 2.5 wins away from home against Kilmarnock Barassie and Largs, coupled with Royal Troon being held to a 3 – 3 draw at home to Loudoun, has moved Irvine to the top of the table, just ahead of Royal Troon who have two games in hand.

In DIVISION 2, A 4 – 2 home win for Ballochmyle over Turnberry and a 5 – 1 defeat for Troon Portland at West Kilbride sees those two teams tied at the top of the table, with Ballochmyle having three games in hand. Turnberry maintained their hopes with a 4 – 2 home win over Caprington whilst Rowallan Castle boosted their chances of avoiding automatic relegation with a 3.5 – 2.5 home win over near neighbours Caprington.

In DIVISION 3b, Ardeer missed their chance of ensuring a place in the title play off in their final fixture of the campaign, going down by 5 – 1 away to Prestwick St Nicholas.

In the final fixture of the section, Irvine Ravenspark host Girvan on the 5th of August, where Girvan will have the chance to overtake Ardeer at the top of the section with a substantial win.
