SCOTTISH MEN'S AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayrshire beat Clackmannanshire at Loudoun but fail to progress to semi-finals

Ayrshire beat Clackmannanshire at Louodun on Sunday the 14th of July in their third and final quailfying section match in the 2024 Scottish Men's Area Team Championship, but despite being unbeaten in the series the Ayrshire team failed to progress to the finals weekend at Hilton Park in September.

Sporting the new Ayrshire Golf Association team bags, bearing the Ayrshire badge and the logo of main sponsors Lomond Property,  the Ayrshire knew they needed to win the match to have any chance of qualifying and began well with a 2.5-0.5 win in the foursomes. In the afternoon singles Ayrshire won 4-2 to give an overall winning score in the match of 6.5 - 2.5.

John Haggarty (Loudoun) & Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) halved with Darren Hulston & Ian Ross

Harvey Broadfoot (Troon Welbeck) & Steven Stamper (Turnberry) beat Craig White & Bruce Clark by 7&6

John Shanks (Irvine) & Blair Morton (Royal Troon) beat Ross Logan & Ricky Alexander by 3&1

SINGLES

Broadfoot beat Alexander by 2&1

Haggarty beat Clark by 5&4

Hamilton lost to Logan by 3&2

Morton lost to White by 3&2

Shanks beat Hulston by 4&3

Stamper beat Ross by 3&2

Although Ayrshire won the match, a 7.5 - 1.5 win by Glasgow against Argyll & Bute in the other match in the section meant that, under the rules of the competition, Glasgow progressed to the semi finals of the competition by virtue of having two away fixtures in the qualifying section against Ayrshire's one away fixture, despite Ayrshire having a better tie difference over the series of matches played.
