SCOTTISH MEN'S AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayrshire and Glasgow share the spoils at Loudoun.

Ayrshire and Glasgow fought out a 4.5 - 4.5 draw on Sunday the 9th of June at Loudoun Gowf Club in their second match in the qualifying section for the 2024 Scottish Men's Area team Championship competition.

In the morning foursomes John Haggarty and Craig Hamilton got Ayrshire's first point on the board with a 6 & 5 win, but the home side did well to salvage a 1.5 - 1.5 draw out of the three morning ties after Steven Stamper and Cameron Aitken lost 3 & 1 and Steven McEwan and George Robertson fought back from two down with two to play to half their tie.

In the afternoon singles the winners for Ayrshire were John Haggarty with a 2&1 win, Steven McEwan with a 3&2 result, and Steven Stamper with a 4&3 win in the anchor tie, but defeats for Cameron Aitken and George Robertson, both by 3&2 and a slender single hole defeat for Craig Hamilton left the two area teams tied 4.5 - 4.5 overall.

In the other match in the section played on Sunday the 9th of June, Clackmannanshire beat Argyll & Bute by 6 - 3 at Alloa Golf Club.

With one round of fixtures to play, Ayrshire and Glasgow are tied at the top of the table with a win and a draw each. Ayrshire's final fixture is at home to Clackmannanshire at Loudoun Gowf Club on the 14th of July while the same day Glasgow travel to play Argyll & Bute at Rothesay.

By virtue of having two away matches this year in the competition, Glasgow only need to match or better the Ayrshire result in the final game to qualify for the finals in September at Hilton Park GC.

The Ayrshire Golf Association would like to thank Loudoun Gowf Club for hosting the fixture and looking after the competitors and officials throughout the day, and also the team sponsors, Lomond Property, for their support.
