AYRSHIRE WOMEN'S MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Quarter final results

The four quarter final matches in the inaugural Ayrshire Women's Matchplay Championship, sponsored by Lomond Property, took place at Rowallan Castle GC on the evening of Monday the 24th of June, in fine and dry conditions, with the course presented in excellent order.

The first tie featured top seed Liz Keohone (Loudoun) who faced Lynsie Bulloch (Irvine), who came into the event as first reserve after a recent withdrawal and took full advantage of her late call up by recording a 2&1 victory in the tie.

2023 Ayrshire Women's Strokeplay champion Audrey Thompson (Loudoun) faced Arlaine Sinclair (Irvine) in the second tie and it was Audrey who went through to the semi finals with a 4&3 win.

In the third tie, which proved to be the closest match of the night, Valerie Crawford (Lamlash), who won the Handicap Strokeplay trophy at this years championship at Prestwick recently, faced Rachel McCready (Largs). All square after eighteen holoes, the two players progressed to a sudden death play off over the celebrated 19th hole at Rowallan Castle. In the first attempt to settle the tie, the players matches each other and after returning to the 19th tee for a second play off hole, it was rachel McCready who won through to the last four of the competition, when she won the match at the 20th hole.

The final tie on Monday evening featured reigning Ayrshire Women's Champion of Champions Debbie Watt (Ayr Belleisle Ladies) and Alison Jarvie (Prestwick St Nicholas), with Debbie claiming the last of the four semi final places with a 3&1 victory.

The semi finals, which take place at Rowallan Castle on Tuesday evening, the 25th of June at 5.00 p.m., are:-

LYNSIE BULLOCH (Irvine) Vs. AUDREY THOMPSON (Loudoun)

RACHEL McCREADY (Largs) Vs. DEBBIE WATT (Ayr Belleisle Ladies)
