WEST OF SCOTLAND COUNTY LEAGUES - A team crash to two defeats whilst Youths are unbeaten

After the first two matches in this seasons West Of Scotland inter county leagues, the Ayrshire A team have suffered two heavy defeats.

In the first match, two weeks ago the A team travelled to Cawder to face Glasgow, and despite some close matches the team were on the wrong end of a 7 - 3 result. Individual scores were :-

David Glass (St. Cuthbert) lost to Neil McRae 1 hole
Robbie Stewart (Portland) lost to Steven Robertson 3 & 2
Ross Milligan (St. Meddans) lost to Gordon Sangster 5 & 4
Darren Mallinson (Ravenspark) lost to John Laurie 2 holes
Kevin Fergusson (St. Cuthbert) halved with Roy Alexander
Steven McEwan (Barassie) beat John McDonald 6 & 5
Stuart Pennington (St. Meddans) halved with Graeme Cox
Fraser McCall (Portland) lost to Peter Jamieson 2 & 1
Colin McGowan (Welbeck) beat Gordon Rennie 6 & 5
Michael Stewart (Welbeck) lost to Steven Mackin 1 hole

GLASGOW 'A' 7 AYRSHIRE 'A' 3

Ayrshire fared no better the following Saturday at Ranfurly Castle when Renfrewshire recorded a win over their visitors by 8 - 2.

This saturday, 22nd October, the Ayrshire A team have a home match at Irvine (Bogside) against Stirlingshire.

Whilst the A team have had a poor start to the league this year, the youth team have fared better, with a draw and a win in their first two outings.

In the opening match two weeks ago, against Glasgow at Ballochmyle, the headlines went to Nicky Sinclair (Kilmarnock Barassie) who was two behind with two holes remaining, in the final match on the course. after winning the 17th, Sinclair holed a 40 foot put on the final green to win the hole, secure a half in his tie and, most importantly, gain a 5 - 5 draw for the team. Lee Hughes (Belleisle) halved with James Hendrick (Pollock)
Alistair Leggate (Barassie) beat Martin Shaw (Haggs Castle) 5 & 4
Gary Neil (Caprington) lost to Brendan McKenna (Cowglen) 3 & 2
Nicky Sinclair (Barassie) halved with Alan Johnston (Cathkin Braes)
Jamie Mackay (Barassie) lost to Chris Laughland (Cawder) 2 & 1
Craig McLaughlan (Largs) lost to Stephen Ferris (Bishopbriggs) 3 & 2

AYRSHIRE YOUTHS 5 GLASGOW YOUTHS 5

Last Saturday, Ayrshire youths played host to Renfrewshire at Brunston Castle and recorded a 6 - 4 win over their visitors. Individual scores were :-

This Saturday, 22nd October, the youth team are away from home, taking on Stirlingshire at Dunblane New.
