ROBERT D. GREEN - Respected Ayr Dalmilling Club Secretary passes away

The Ayrshire golfing community was dealt another sad blow on Monday the 20th of December 2021, with the sad news of the passing of Ayr Dalmilling Golf Club's Secretary Robert D. Green, at the age of 84.

Robert was well known on county golfing circles, and was a well respected club official who had served his home club in various capacities over many years, most notably as Club Secretary in recent times.

A skilled organiser, Robert was well liked in his home club and far beyond, described by many as one of life's true gentlemen, a club legend and simply Mr. Ayr Dalmilling.

Robert was a firm supporter of all aspects of the club, of which he was one of the founder members in 1961, enjoying the success of young club golfers and club teams alike, over the years. He took particular pride in seeing his club team win the inaugural Ayrshire handicap League Championship in 2017, and was present both on the day and at the following Ayrshire Golf Association annual dinner, where he was a regular attender over many years, to see the team receive the championship trophy.

Although he had some health issues in recent times, Robert's dedication to looking after the interests of the membership of the Dalmilling club never wavered, and he continued to look after all the club matters until his sad passing. A shining example of the brand of unsung hero that every golf club needs to flourish.

The thoughts of all at The Ayrshire Golf Association are with Robert's family and friends, and the members of the Ayr Dalmilling Golf Club, at this sad time.

LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR - Royal Troon's Hazel Macgarvie secures tour card for 2022

Hazel Macgarvie (Royal Troon) has secured her Ladies European Tour card for the 2022 season, following a great performance in the Q- School event held at la Manga in Spain from the 16th to the 20th of December 2021.

In a intensive and punishing schedule over the four days, rounds of 73, 73, 69, 71 and 75 gave Hazel a level par total of  361 and crucially a joint 15th place in the Qualifying School competition to secure playing rights on the LET for the 2022 season. Only one other Scot, Laura Beveridge (Alford), successfully negotiated the Q School event to regain her place on the tour after losing her place at the end of the 2021 season.

All at the Ayrshire Golf Association wish Hazel the very best of luck in her golfing adventure on the LET in 2022.

JAMIE McCORMACK - Golfing community left shocked by sudden passing of Master Clubmaker and owner of Pure Forged Golf

The golfing community in Ayrshire and far beyond the county have been left stunned and shocked by the devastating news of the untimely death today, Wednesday the 8th of December 2021, of Pure Forged Golf owner and Master Clubmaker Jamie McCormack, at the all too young age of 51.

Jamie was brought up in Ayr, where he attended Mainholm Academy. He began his golfing development as a junior at Ayr Dalmilling and became an accomplished golfer, taking part in county events on a regular basis. He reached the semi finals of the 2004 Ayrshire Champion of Champions trophy competition, losing out to the eventual winner Tommy McInally.

Since establishing Pure Forged Golf around 2003, Jamie and his wife Lynne worked hard to establish the company as the first choice company for premium, custom made, golf clubs in the country.

Jamie became a member of Irvine Golf Club after the family set up home in the town, and was a regular supporter of competitions and events at his home club and beyond.

In recent years, Jamie took much pride in following the developing golfing skills of his young son, also Jamie, as a member of the successful Irvine Golf Club junior section, and could often be found on the course, supporting the juniors at team matches, and always willing to chat about anything golf related, to friends and strangers alike.

Described simply by many friends and acquaintances as ‘one of life’s gentlemen’ and ‘a great guy’, Jamie’s skills as a clubmaker, and more importantly his friendship and easy going, affable, demeanour, will be sadly missed by many from the golfing world and elsewhere.

The thoughts and prayers of all at The Ayrshire Golf Association are with Jamie’s wife Lynne, his children Cara and Jamie, and wider circle of family and friends at this desperately sad time.

Rest well Jamie….it was a pleasure to know you.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION A.G.M. - Scott Gilchrist elected President

Scott Gilchrist (Loudoun) has been elected President of The Ayrshire Golf Association for the period 2021 to 2023, at the Annual General Meeting, held at Loudoun Gowf Club on Monday the 25th of October 2021.

An executive member since July 2013, Scott has been a mainstay of junior golf development in Ayrshire and has been instrumental in developing an excellent team ethos in the the boys' squad and coaching programme, which has resulted in Ayrshire winning the West of Scotland Under 18 Inter County League twice in recent years and culminated in the Ayrshire team's triumph in the 2021 Scottish Boys Area Team Championship.

In taking over from immediate Past president John W Watt (Prestwick St Cuthbert), Scott becomes only the second Loudoun member to hold the post of Association President, 34 years after Chic Bruce filled the President's roll from 1987 to 1989.

Also at the A.G.M. Andrew Gilligan (Royal Troon) was elected Vice President of The Association for the next two years. A Past Captain and Secretary of the Troon St Meddans Club, where he is also still a member, Andrew joined The Executive in 2017, and has already contributed significantly to the work of The Association, especially when assisting with the administration of the County teams and coaching programme.

The association Secretary/Treasurer Alasdair J. Malcolm (Prestwick St Cuthbert), who has served The Association in various roles in the 32 years since he first joined The Executive, was re-elected to the post he has held since 2009.

Robert Wilson (Ballochmyle) and Sandy Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) were both re elected to The Executive for a three year period, and were joined for the first time by three new Executive members in Ross Caddis (Kilmarnock Barassie), Jim McGhee (Loudoun) and Liz Keohone (Loudoun), whilst Past President John Rushbury (Royal Troon) was re-elected to The Executive, to fill a two year vacancy.

During the meeting the President's Report, Financial Report,,Coaching Report, Course Rating Report, and Ayrshire Junior Golf League Report, which had all been previously circulated to member clubs, were approved, as was The Association's proposal to retain the per capita membership subscription at £2.50, with the meeting also being advised that the Scottish Golf per capita would remain at £14.50 as previously agreed at a national level.

There were no other matters raised for discussion at the A.G.M.
