AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION FINALS DAY - Loudoun to host four finals on revised date.

The finals of four of the Ayrshire Golf Association's extended competitions will be held this year at Loudoun Gowf Club on Sunday 3rd September.

The provisional date for the finals was the following week, Sunday 10th September, but due to a clash with the Scottish Area Team championships that weekend, it was decided to bring the finals day forward a week to 3rd September.

Matches will tee off between 1.00 p.m. and 2.30 p.m, and will include the finals of the Handicap League Championship, The Gary Bryden Memorial Salver, The President's Putter and Fourball Championship.

GARY BRYDEN SALVER - Scratch club team knockout competition reaches the semi final stage

The scratch club team knockout competition for The Gary Bryden Salver has reached the semi final stage as the clubs aim for a place in the final of the 2017 competition, scheduled to take place on Sunday 3rd September.

2016 runners up, Prestwick St Cuthbert, beat Brunston Castle 3 - 0 at Prestwick in their quarter final tie and will be at home to Kilmarnock (Barassie) in the semi final, who were given a walkover by Turnberry in the quarter finals.

Defending champions Loudoun lost out by 2 - 1 at Ayr Belleisle in the quarter finals, with the Belleisle team rewarded with a home tie in the semi finals.

Ayr Belleisle's opponents in the semi final will be Ballochmyle who had a notable 2 - 1 win at Royal Troon in their quarter final clash.

The semi final matches are due to be completed by 27th August.

AYRSHIRE FOURBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - Semi Final line up confirmed

The semi final line up for the 2017 Ayrshire Fourball Championship has been confirmed after the remaining quarter final ties were completed recently.

Gordon & Iain McKenzie (Annanhill) are at home in the semi finals to John McBean & Andrew Brown (Ayr Belleisle), after the due from the Kilmarnock club beat near neighbours David Addison & Philip Rooney (Rowallan Castle) by 3 & 2 at Annanhill in the quarter finals.

The pairing of Ian Smith & Steven Miller (Troon Welbeck) will be at home to James Ross & Billy Whitten (Kilmarnock Barassie) in the semi final after the Barassie pair beat their visitors Graeme Warnock & Craig Barr (N B Parkstone) by 2 & 1 in the quarter finals.

The semi final matches are due to be completed by 27th August with the final being provisionally scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday 3rd September.

AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT EVENTS- Counting competitions cancelled in both men's and boy's order of merit

Counting competitions for both the Ayrshire Junior Order Of Merit and the Doc Thom Ayrshire Order Of Merit have been cancelled in recent days.

In the Junior Order Of Merit, the Pollock Trophy on Tuesday 25th July at Kilmarnock (Barassie) was not played for the third successive year, lack of entries again forcing organisers to cancel the event. This is the second Junior Order Of Merit event to be cancelled this year following the Largs Junior Open which also fell victim to lack of entries.

The trend by junior golfers to anticipate being able to enter competitions late, or even on the day of the event, is a worrying one which, due to its prevalence, is seriously undermining the viability of running junior open competitions for many clubs. If the trend of not entering by or before the published closing date continues, there is a real risk that the number of club junior opens, and thus opportunities for junior golfers to experience other courses, will be drastically reduced in years to come, with clubs likely to opt not to run such events.

In the Doc Thom Ayrshire Order Of Merit, the Rowallan Castle Open, which was to have been a counting event in late August, has been cancelled this year.
